Trenton and Erika were high school sweethearts, connecting over a mutual love for photography that they still share a passion for today. Trenton grew up primarily in the bay area and Erika in Bakersfield, where they met. Trenton attended Cal Poly SLO on the central coast of California, playing Division 1 soccer for the Mustangs, while Erika attended Cal State Bakersfield. They married during their senior year of college when Trenton returned to Bakersfield to play soccer with the Roadrunners, winning the Div. II National Championship. When not cheering on her husband during soccer matches, Erika worked at her family’s chain of Mexican restaurants.

They have been married for 16 years and have three beautiful children, Brennen(16), Sydney(15), and Gabe(12). They moved from Bakersfield to the Seattle area in 2003, sensing that God was calling them there but without a clear reason why. God led them to Lighthouse Christian Church in Bellevue, WA where they immediately knew they had found their church home. They served in many volunteer positions before Trenton entered full-time ministry staff in 2008 as Director of Student Ministries. During Trenton’s time on staff at Lighthouse, he also attended Fuller Seminary (Northwest Campus) completing his Master of Theology degree in 2012. He also has deep interest in apologetics and differing worldviews believing that the claims of Jesus are for everyone. Additionally he has had the opportunity to develop leadership and teaching gifts while at Lighthouse. Erika is a wonderful story teller and captivates audiences, young and old with her energy and ability to connect and convey her love for them.

After four and a half years on staff, God again called them to another place, Kenya. Through leading short-term missions trips, God revealed a great need to minister to street kids(homeless youth). At first they thought this would take place in Nairobi, but after spending their first few months in Mombasa for cultural training, they quickly realized Mombasa was where God would have them fulfill His ministry plan. With their passion to to come alongside the local church, they have found another way to use their gifts and abilities through serving as youth Sunday school teachers, women’s ministry (Erika), and preaching and serving as an elder (Trenton). Erika also helps to teach an adult ESL class to a group of Muslim Pakistani women, integrating biblical stories and principles whenever possible.

The Yenokida kids have felt the same call to make this foreign place their home through their vision trip to Kenya in 2011. The kids musical talents have given them the opportunity to sing songs at orphanages, slum schools, and churches across Kenya. And even at a missionary retreat just shortly after arriving in Kenya in 2013! The Yenokidas have always enjoyed serving as a family and look forward to continuing this tradition in Kenya for the next few years, or more!
